In India, there are two vaccines available and currently using these two vaccines for preventing from corona virus infection , the vaccine names are Covaxin from Bharat biotech and Covishield from Serum Institute of India
Generally having lots doubts on these two vaccines, people are searching and enquiring about of these two vaccines. How these vaccines works, what are the side effects of these vaccines, who should take these vaccines, who should not take these vaccines.
How covaxin works
covaxin is manufactured by bharat biotech which is a largest vaccine producer in India
The Bharat Biotech produces covaxin with collaboration of Indian Council of Medical Research [ICMR] and National Institute of Virology [NIV]
Covaxin is a inactivated vaccine which means it made up of killed corona virus, this vaccine safely injected into the body, then immune system recognizes the dead corona virus and immune cells produce the antibodies and preventing from corona virus infection.
Why covaxin is inactivated
The vaccine is developed using Whole-Virion Inactivated Vero Cell derived platform technology. Inactivated vaccines do not replicate and are therefore unlikely to revert and cause pathological effects. They contain dead virus, incapable of infecting people but still able to instruct the immune system to mount a defensive reaction against an infection.
Why develop Inactivated Vaccine?
Conventionally, inactivated vaccines have been around for decades. Numerous vaccines for diseases such as Seasonal Influenza, Polio, Pertussis, Rabies, and Japanese Encephalitis use the same technology to develop inactivated vaccines with a safe track record of >300 million doses of supplies to date. It is the well-established, and time-tested platform in the world of vaccine technology.
This Covaxin two doses are given four weeks apart. The vaccine can be stored at 2C to 8C.
Efficiency of the covaxin
According to Bharat biotech the covaxin vaccine efficiency is 81%
who should not take covixn vaccine
Who are suffering with allergies, fever, bleeding disorder, weakness of immune system, pregnant, are Brest feeding, and other health related issues. These symptoms who are having must not take covaxin , take another covid vaccine
Side-effects of covaxin
The mild side-effects of the vaccine injection site pain and swelling, injection site redness, injection site itching, stiffness in the upper arm, body ache, headache, fever malaise, weakness, rashes, nausea, vomiting.
How covishield works
The covishield manufactured by The Serum Institute of India, the world largest vaccine producer collaborated with Oxford-AstraZeneca.
Covishield, is made from a weakened version of a common cold virus (known as an adenovirus) from chimpanzees. It is modified similarly as a coronavirus
When this vaccine injected into the body, the vaccine activates the immune system producing antibodies against coronavirus infection.
This covishield also administrated two doses between four weeks. It can be safely stored at temperatures of 2C to 8C
How effective is covishield
International clinical trials of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine showed that when people were given a half dose and then a full dose, effectiveness hit 90%.
But there was not enough clear data to approve the half-dose, full-dose idea
Who should not take covishield
Who are suffering with allergies, fever, bleeding disorder, weakness of immune system, pregnant, are Brest feeding, and other health related issues. These symptoms who are having must not take covishield , take another covid vaccine
What are side Effects of covishield
The mild side effects are tenderness, pain, warmth, redness, itching, or bruising where the injection is given. feeling unwell, chills, feeling feverish, headache
